Welcome to the Hobbayne Centenary Website
This website has been designed and produced especially to celebrate 100 years of Hobbayne Primary School. The school (then called Greenford Avenue School) was opened in 1911. Since then, it has had the addition of a building in 2004, and a new £5.5m build starting in October 2011. Tripping over the leg of my bedside table. I heard the radio crying out over and over again ” Elvis Presley is dead.” Amazingly nobody knows who or how he was killed.We found his body in his house Graceland, Memphis, Tennesee. He was extreamly close to getting married to Linda Thompson after having a baby called Lisa -Marie Presley. Who in the end married Michael Jackson (what a coincidence.) Tragedy and tears were all over the place, when Elvis Presley died. People would say ”its not over exaggerating because he was so good with his music.” He was knows as ” The king of rock.”
Holidays In The Past
Year 2 have been comparing holidays from the past with holidays today. The children found out some of the differences including…
- People travelled to the beach by steam train.
- People wore all their clothes on the beach so they wouldn’t get sun burnt.
- Children bought ice cream from a man in a horse and cart.
- Swimmers got changed in a bathing machine!
- People stayed in large hotels but they had to share bathrooms and toilets with other guests.
The children wrote a postcard home from a 1911 beach holiday.

On Wednesday, Green and Pink Class learnt basic Charleston steps – a popular dance in the 1920′s. The children enjoyed learning the start of the East Coast Swing and finding out about the history of the dance.
Nursery make a pop video
The children in Nursery worked on choreographing a dance to ‘Reach for the Stars’ by S Club 7 this week, which was our song for the noughties. Today we videoed the children dancing to it, then we had a disco to noughties songs.
We also had a visit from year 3 who told us about what school was like in the 60′s. They demonstrated corporal punishment using a slipper and a ruler – none of our children thought this was a good thing to have in school. The Year 3 children were dressed up in 60′s clothes and showed us a dance to a song from that time – ‘Peppermint Twist’.

Surprisingly this morning when I got out of the shower and went down stairs my mum was crying on the sofa and my dad was sitting wide eyed watching the news. I thought they were robots because they didnt move, only when a tear was dripping down my mum’s face. In a worried voice I asked whats wrong? My mum stopped weeping and took a deep breath. Before she could say anything dad said ”The rock’n'roll king has died.” I paused for a very long time. Elvis died he said in a stern voice. OH!
I’m out the door alwredy . There is none in the street and trian only the driver and a woman.She is crying and I say get a life . I think she is angry so I went to a different carrige. There was no driver in the end so I went home! It was a long walk home because there was no buses on the road.When I got home mum and dad were in in the same position as when I left them.I sighed and made some soup for evryone , but when I finished I came in and the wasnt touched so I went to bed and hope its all over by tomorrow.Before I went up stairs I said get a life under my breath. Dad heard me and fell on the floor in stiches laughing.

It all started when Elvis died [my biggest fan].The whole world of rock ‘n’ roll said a final farewell to it’s today.He had a heart attack at his mansion on16th of August 1977 in,Gracelands,Memphis,Tennessee.He was the king on rock’n'n roll He was coming out of the shower for his fifth showcase.
Elvis was drying himself then suddenly he fell on his bed and I said “Elvis please wake up don’t do this to me wake up wake up”. so I ran to ring the amblance .So I said to people “the showcace is over”.I was crying to the limit.
The next day was the furnel.All his family ame and I came too. Everyone was waering black.People were crying.Nearly everyone was crying.We buried him in his garden.On the grave it said ‘Elvis Presly died in his mansion.1977 in Graceland,Memphis,Tennessee 16 August.He had a heart attack.When I was sleeping I had all these bad dreames.When Iwas scared I put my favourite music which was from Elvis (My Hero) .

Today when I woke up I cleared my eyes and I went downstairs and I saw my mum and dad crying , I didnt understand why so I asked why and they said “Elvis Presley has died” at the time I didnt know who he was so I went outside to play and I saw a grown women crying so I said ” Whats wrong (sigh) its that Elvis guy isnt it” she replied ” what do you mean that Elvis guy…. HE WAS A LEGEND! After that abuse I walked off (scared) and then I saw about 30 white cars after that I thought I would get run over so I went back home.

One sunny warm Saturday morning when I was eating my breakfast my mum turned the radio on.A calm music was playing,then it stopped.After a while a man said “Last night Elvis Presly had a heart attack and died .Everybody this is a farewell to The Rock n Roll King.”I was so sad when I heard that.
Me and my family went to the place where people gathered to see Elvis go.Everyone was crying. The death of Elvis Presly was a sad event.As the car with Elvis Presly on drived away somepeople chased after the car but the car was too fast, the car disapered .Elvis Presly’s body was burried in his garden.
When we got home we were still crying (exept my dad.)My dad turned the Radio on,the news about Elvis Presly’s death.Then dad turned the radio off and said”Thats enough of that for one day.”I said “Your right dad.”
And that was the day that The Rock n Roll king died.
